New Scooter Options, please

I'm doing some research for a friend who wants to buy a scooter for her daughter, 17. The daughter won't entertain the idea of anything else but a scooter, and the 50cc one she has been riding has died a death and cost a fortune. So mum is a bit wary.

What models are there available that look good, have a reputation for reliability and can be bought new? Four stroke twist and go is probably preferred.

My suggestions are an LX125, an LML 125, possibly a Peugeot Django - has anyone bought one?! A GTS is probably out of their price range. The AJS Modena is an option, but I don't know what the reliability is like.

Any opinions or suggestions?

The 'look good' is all in the eye of the beholder.
For 2c.. why nothing Japanese? Are they expensive in the UK?

The last one was Japanese and they're not too interested in repeating the experience!

She won't go wrong with a Vespa ET4 50cc 4 stroke, won't be the cheapest if buying new but will hold its price a lot better than the far eastern offerings. My wife has one and I have ridden it a fair bit locally, not very quick (about 40mph tops) but supper reliable. I bought my wife's as a bit of a project (02 plate) for £250 about 4 years ago.

Thanks, but she really wants a 125cc. I'm not reallyt familiar with new scooter models, I've ridden the same Lambretta for 30 years and I'm not really interested in buying anything else!

I rode an LX125 in Italy for a few days and it seemed a pretty decent scoot.

A few of our club mates have got first time into the two wheel scootering thing with 125 Modenas, 6 in total. All impressed with price, reliability and they are not slow, 55mph and a bit more as standard.

I think it's the reliability that's important. No-one would want their 17 yr old daughter stranded with a broken down scoot. The Modena is one of the ones you see a few of. Never seen a Peugeot Django.
