Courier or Post Office/Parcelforce for engine?

I need to ship an engine across U.K. and looking for recommendations. I've read the horror stories here and my highest priorities are NOT losing it in transit and decent insurance coverage for the absolute worst case scenario. Happy to pay extra for peace of mind.

Any recommendations for couriers or should I just use Parcelforce?

Try interparcel.com once you got the box weight and dimensions they'll give you several different quotes. TNT will probably be the best option if it's over 30kg. Check small print for what they will and won't cover, some of them are very restrictive.
Post Office is crap for anything over 2kg.

I sent a small, 1kg, parcel to Germany, cost £12 and promised a two to three days, at most, time scale. Parcelforce took 3 weeks.

I sent a large valve amp away using interparcel the other year. It was collected when they promised, delivered as promised, safe and sound.
Didn't have any problems, so can't comment on how well they resolve them, but the whole experience went as they claimed it would.
I was slightly anxious as the amp probably would cost more to replace than your average speced up Lammy motor.

I used my Hermes for an engine recently. Put it in a plastic refuse box. It took 2/3 days and everything is clearly tracked.

They are well dodgy at the delivery end Tim.

"signed for" = card through letter box marked "Parcel under the car"!

i use a company called apc, very reliable and not too expensive, i wouldnt use anyone else for a big parcel

I wouldn't trust Hermes to deliver a dried out dog-turd.

I use parcel2go.com its usually around £20 without insurance which ive never added , its usually collected by UPS and delivered within 2 days,UK delivery, a complete engine packaged very well weighs around 35kg , make sure oil is drained out, the only problem is they dont except engines so list it as scooter or motorcycle parts , sent it through these about 20 times now with no problems , but do wrap/pack it up well .

Ive never had a problem with myhermes, either delivery or receiving.
