First scooter was a 53 ld125 which I bought in boxes from some bloke who had it stashed in the back of an old hearse for £30! I was 16 and didn't know my arse from my tit. I did manage to unsieze the engine in my bedroom though, but not before I'd burnt my eyebrows off by alternating between a blow torch and a can of wd40.
I thought the exhaust was an oil tank. and it may come as a shock to the readership but I never got it back on the road.

First proper scooter was a 150 super in 1986 that angelo (founder of what became motech) fixed up for £35 and I painted at work. It was a great scooter (at least for a 150 super) but I wrote it off in a jousting bout with a lada (uncoolest crash ever) 7 days after putting it on the road. I still can't move my left arm properly.

First car was a yellow beetle in 1990 which I modified to 'cal look' and built a 1700 engine with high lift cams etc etc in my mam's dining room. Amazingly that's still on the road.

My first scooter was an Li150 series 2 which I paid £15 for in 1969. It had been used on a farm to herd cows and was covered in cow sh1t. 6 months later I had stripped it to it's last nut and bolt rebuilt it and had it sprayed black and orange and it was on the road for my 16th birthday. 3 years later my first car was a 1966 mini which my girlfriends dad lent me £70 to buy which I paid back at a fiver a week. The only reason he lent me the money was because he didn't like his daughter riding pillion on my scooter which was then an SX200. I didn't have a car license when I bought the car and learned to drive by having mates who did have a car license sit next to me to make it legal. Once I passed my test unfortunately the SX200 sat in the garage until I sold it for the same £70 I bought the mini for. If only I'd kept it

Good thread guys. My first scooter was a V100 sport. The first garage I worked at when I was 16 had it stuck behind the bins. It was brought in for work and never collected. Bought it for £50 way back in 1983, that was a whole weeks wage. But could not get it going so bought a V90 instead. First car was a viva mk1.

oddly my 1st car was a 1971 Capri GT1600 just like this one which I killed less than a month after passing my test :( I was too young to know they needed a few bags of cement in the boot to make them go round corners lol

First scooter was April 1980. A TV200 for £30. Mum was furious. Dad was more philosophical. "Don't worry, he'll never get it to run". Dad was nearly right.

My first car was a maroon MkII Cortina 1300L estate car. The family dubbed it Bessie.

The parent "you will never get it going was always a challenge". I was given when I was 15 an old singer gazelle estate. It will never run but it will keep him quite for a bit.. It had no rear wheel arches that I fibre glassed. If you can get it going it's yours for when you pass your test. It was parked on a bit of waste ground and Getting it going took a couple of months. With another couple of months trying to find reverse on the colum gear change. Once I could reverse it off the waste ground I was off, often returning to find my space had another car in my place. The bloody car was in a different place each day and no one twigged till mother spotted me cruising down the high street one lunch time from school, arm out the window, sun glasses on. The car went to the scrap yard the same day. When I got into scooters it often ended up with the old bill following me home or I had ridden a Mates bike and been stopped for no insurance. So she was happier when I got the Moggie van. She was not happy with my engineering skills and when it needed some work on the master cylinder insisted that I took it to a gararge. It cost me 3 weeks wages, collected it from the gararge. Went out that night, came to a t junction, foot on brake peddle, to the bottom and just missed T boning a bloody Police car as I went strait on across the junction and ended up in a flower bed. The copper dragged me out the car not impressed with my driving skills but after showing him the bill for the work done by the local BMC main dealer offered to come and kick the guys head in for me. Turned out the apprentice did the job left a bleed nipple loose ( He was in my class at school). Mother decided after that it was cheaper if I killed myself. Happy days but I married a policemans daughter and went legit ?...

First scooter. SX150. December 1981 off a bloke at work for £120. Wasn't old enought to ride it, (legally), till August '82. Would look at it, polish it, tinker with it, every spare minute I had until I was on the road...then I spent every spare minute fixing it.
Sold I in '83 to a local lad who cut it down the next day.

First car. Morris Cooper 998. Bought off a bloke at work, (not the same one I got SX off), in 1986 for £700. Went well with a few tweeks. Scrapped it in mid 90's as it had no floor left in it...and Coopers wern't worth that much then. What an idiot!!!
