just to add,,,,,,,,,,,the frame involved was chopped for a auto conversion so back end of frame was dumped and front part of frame now has a different identity so V5 is straight registered on my name with DVA SWANSEA

my understanding is that it is illegal to sell a v5 logbook without a frame/chassis , as you have destroyed the old frame then you could sell the v5 with a new unstamped frame.

Not what you want to hear but, legally if the frame no longer exists under that identity, the logbook should be rturned to DVLA.
Using the Vin for any other frame IS "ringing", and that includes using that number on a new frame.

This has been covered on here before and is a contentious issuse however it is not illegal to reframe any motorcycle , scooter or car etc using a new /remade frame or chassis of the same type.
Ringing is when the numbers are removed / ground off an already registered vehicle and then restamped. I cant remember the year of the top of my head but under a certian year vehicle identification numbes (vin) plate aint even requirred on a frame / chassis.

I had a V5 and a piece of frame showing the number- In all innocence I tried to transfer that to an unregistered Lambretta thinking I could short circuit the system. I spent the morning my daughter was born talking to the Police at the local nick.

My wife has never forgiven me.

I got a good bollocking from the Police for being "stupid". Hence my reluctance to have anything to do with V5's and VINs/ pieces of tube etc!!
