a definite no-no regards insurance.

Chris
would you say the same thing if it was a gp200 with a rb225 kit or a li125 with a 190cc kit on?

a 125cc lambretta with a 200cc engine in is just the same as any kitted scooter that most people ride

you could even buy a scomadia 125 fitted with a 172cc engine

just saying ;)

most people kit out bikes to improve the performance. Now if you declare everything to your insurance company then there is no problem- if its not declared then your insurance in INVALID. Which means your insurance company WILL pay out to 3rd parties, but will reclaim their expenditure from your assets. If there is a death or serious injury then the 3rd part claim could be massive.

Fancy loosing your house rather than telling your Ins Coy what you've done?- No brainer IMO.

Same applies to a bike bigger than 125 but is registered as a 125- Insurance is invalid if not declared to Ins Coy.

Even if you have declared it your cover is no good as you are "driving a vehicle not in accordance with your licence"

Your own loses will not be paid at all if the Ins Coy find out you've not declared everything or your licence doesn't cover the vehicle.

when was the last time you saw 195cc,225cc or 250cc on a logbook chris?

do you have to change the logbook when you change a 125 to a 200? with a mechanics report?

how many people here have declared all there performance parts? dont expect many answers on this one

@ipman. I know you enjoy a bit of a "stir" on here judging by your previous postings.

You carry on mate- at the end of the day I'm not the one losing all their assets to cover an Insurance Company payout. And don't think they won't............"shall we just pay out the death claim of £1m + or get an engineer to strip the engine and report at a cost of £250". No brainer!

"Shall we check the drivers licence status or just pay out?" Again no brainer.

If I'm injured/ my vehicle damaged due to someone else's fault, I will get paid eventually- either from the other parties Insurance or if they are uninsured from the MIB fund.

If the insurance is invalid, they'll get it from you one way or another- believe me. Done it numerous times through my previous job- and its not nice evicting someone to get a debt repaid.

your not getting this are you chris?

your point of getting a 125cc lambretta with a 200cc engine being bad is what I'm getting at,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

nothing to do with insurance company's going after people,,,I dont really care ;)

I like a good stir, but only when I know I'm right  alot of people say what they like but when someone says the opposite there's an uproar  funny

Why? Seem to recall the same stance from a club mate, then when he needed a new rear shock he bought an Escort one because it was half the price of an Italian one.

Whatever you buy remember that it will be very very old! Technology has moved on a lot over the years and what was expected from a vehicle 40 or 50 years ago is not the same as now. They weren't that reliable new, and half a century of dodgy repairs and general wear and tear won't have improved it. It will break down, the spares won't fit and it will end up costing you a lot of time and money.

If you can cope with all that then welcome aboard, you'll love it!

I suspect that at least 50% of the scooters on the road today dont marry up to whats on there ins docs and whilst everything that chris says is true in real life the ins companies dont tend to chase. I know a guy who got wiped out by a van on his kitted 125 vespa that he was riding without L plates or current cbt.
He was paid out for the bike and got compensation for injuries to boot. The insco could have refused to pay out on any number of issues had they bothered to explore but they didnt...... Your choice i guess.

As an ex insurance broker i would see someone telling me they had kitted there bike as a way of upping there premium and or excess or more likley fu##ing them off as a bad risk.

Remember performance up grades equal more speed equal more chance of accident equals more risk equals more chance of paying out. This is how all insurance companies approach risk.

......it's clear to me what Chris has said if you ride a 125 frame scoot with a 200 engine and you haven't passed your test then your riding with no insurance, a lot do from what I read. Brainless IMHO.... ;)

You get good value with a spanish made bike.
Where abouts in the country are you? Ask around at a local scooter club for help and advice.
Maybe use some of your budget to get your bike test done, youll have alot more choice to go for.
Decide whether you prefer a fat series 1 or 2 or a slimstyle series 3 or gp.
Although they are all a bit of scaffolding tube with a number stamped on, an li always will always be the base model and tv/sx the premium.
What do you plan on using it for? A daily rider or the odd Sunday rideout? Its all good and well having a shiny blingy paint job but its of no use if the engine is badly built/setup.
