Hi all ..ever thought about racing a vintage scooter or even a modern day auto round some of the best tracks in the country ? You think your quick on the road and have a fast road scoot then bring it to a race meeting!

Starting out in racing is very easy indeed....first of all you need to become a member of the BSSO (http://www.scooterracing.org.uk/bsso-me ... ......then go onto the acu website and download a scooter road race licence application form and fill it in (http://www.acu.org.uk/uploaded/document ... f).....you can then go to Darley Moor or some other tracks that hold a ACU safety test day you'll get a certificate at the end of the day saying your ready for the track! Send that in to the ACU with your licence application form and fee's, and you'll get sent back a ACU track licence....after that its time to get your machine track worthy ;o)

There are several groups you can enter from geared classes such as street class, group 4 & 6 and so on......once you have a machine up to scratch its time to do your homework on tracks and racers, talk to other racers ask what they use or to point you in the right direction. Everyone in the paddock wants to see the grid numbers rise..the best advice i could give to anyone starting out is go to a meeting and watch them in action talk to the racers tell them what you have or intend to do. Don't jump into the deep-end stright away i would do some testdays first with your ACU licence, tracks all over the country hold ACU only trackdays such as Mallory on a Wednesday from 1 till 5 and get a feel for the bike, tyres, suspension, engine and track etc. Then i think you'll be ready for the track enter a race meeting and you'll never look back, you'll be hooked! I hope this has helped anyone thinking of racing..

more challenging than fending of the FAA

no way I could ever afford or be good enough to race, but whats the setup and atmosphere like for spectators

plan to get along to a couple of races to watch, is any of the pit area open to allow you to see the scooters?

or is it purely sit on a hill behind a wire fence and watch them go by?
heavy is good, heavy is reliable, and if it does fail, hit them with it!!!
