i have just had to renew my ignition switch it is a dc . I assumed that all I had to do is unplug the old wires and replace them with the same colours . after removing the top I have found the new one has more wires and not all the same colour , also the bulbholder has been mainly bypassed.i have unravelled all the wiring and paired up the greens ,browns and blacks [ ihave a round style bulbholder with all the colours and 2 slots in the middle for wires but unmarked]I have a pink which is earth and a yellow grey and orange plugged in but not paired up with anything . my question is firstly where do I plug the cable from the battery and also where do I plug the dip beam and the on switch for the lights and finally the horn I also have indicators in which if ican get this sorted I will come on again and ask the question

surely someone must be able to give me a bit of a clue I have looked at the lggb site and it has given me an idea I have asked where I bought and although much more helpful than most I haven't had a reply so as it stands from the ignition I have a grey and a black wire[dc] which I have no idea what they are for and I have a red and white battery cable not connected

Hey Nick, I am so unsure of DC systems [never had a working one on a Lambretta] any chance of posting pics?

Faced with this sort of dilemma i'd usually go through all options [regardless of color] until you get what you are looking for in terms of what does what and when [switch positions].

Sounds like the switch you have replaced might be offering different positions than the one you replaced.

the black from ignition switch should be plugged in with the black in the main loom (rear light) and black wire from speedo bulb. The grey wire from switch plugs in with what ever colour in main loom that goes to break light switch.Yellow goes to one side of the pilot bulb, the other side should be earthed.Orange should pair up with an orange from light switch.
What model of Lambretta do you have ?

thanks I have 2 lambrettas one is a 1971 gp200 simple and basic the one iam having trouble with is a series 80linx [the one with 3 lights on the headset] it has the plastic square switches but none of the wires are standard colours I also have indicators so I have wires everywhere I live in spain so I bought a serveta for a very reasonable price thinking if I had problems I could take it to any local garage, how wrong could I be very few people are aware they were built there, everyone calls it a vespa and when I took it for mot it was the first lambretta they had ever tested. to be fair it has been a bit of a nightmare project every part is non standard but built that way originally . eventually turned it in to a rt195 but the wiring is a bit of a mess which I have started to work through after my switch broke hence my plea for help cheers nick

just looked at my wiring I have a brown wire going from my regulator to brake light switch which is pink to the back light and brown to the headset . so I plug the grey to the brown but that leaves me with a spare brown from the switch do I join it together with the grey? or plug it elsewhere thanks

Look at it logically, what does not work and at what switch position is the spare brown wire live? It could the accessory find wire from the switch that most DC system switches have.

the accessory wire is red and white so it isn't that. logically to me there seems to be to many wires from the switch but then again I am not an auto electrician i will try some trial and error but iam slightly nervous that i will do some damage[ which i specialise in] iam looking at putting a live[brown or grey] through the lightswitch and then connect to front light main beam horn etc , iam assuming the switch connects the back lights when the key is turned, is that correct? once again thanks for advice nick

There's a diagram in Sticky's book for the Lince with indicators.

The trouble with them is you never know who had their hands on it before you. Mine had bits of household wire in odd places. In the end I ripped it out and wired it as per a GP, at least I know what's what that way. I had to put a key switch in the back of the headset and create my own loom for th indicators but it's all working and more importantly I know how it works.
