What is the kak that is sprayed on SIL parts from the factory? It reacts with just about anything.

What's the best way to remove all traces of it without blasting?

paint stripper, but its not very strong these days, or a wire wheel in a grinder is effecive.

Caustic Soda again Ross, left for 24 hours or so it will remove even cellulose but you will need a BIG bucket unless you do one half at a time. The caustic won't affect the steel.
