A CRF250 engine on the left, it is about to be replaced by a Honda CB500 twin.
As the pictures won't paste into here, I can only paste a link - http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/c ... d.1077236/ 1st page, 1stpost, a long way down. Seeing it fitted in the frame give a slightly better perspective on size.

Had a read through that article, very interesting, surprising how compact the engines are. My hunt locally has turned up a cheap DR600 so far but it is kickstart only which would be a bugger to access never mind start. But 45BHP and 50MPG do sound good 8-)

One contributor - J-Mo+Piglet - put 12,000 miles on a converted to wire wheels and lifted suspension X model in 12 weeks. In that time, she did an Ironbutt (1000 miles in 24 hours), crossed from coast to coast of the US and on the return did the entire length of the TransAmericaTrail, which is pretty much all off road, shore to shore. No mechanicals.
I think the consumption was better than 50mpg, and thats using weedy little US gallons. On dirt tyres too.

Still no progress but a change of plans...now thinking of a big auto engine...Burgman 400 perhaps. 100mph and 80mpg....seems like a great combo to me.
I`ve sold my Series 1 so time to feed this monster.

I thought you were going to fit a bike engine? :(
Did you have to do that?

Not much progress to report, been out of action with a gammy neck this last few months. Stripped the ugly duckling of all unnecessary bodywork to see what was left. It actually looks ok as a bare ratter
The more I look at it the more the plan changes

Yes Sash they are bloody wide fekkers!! The engine case sticks out a mile and the engine mounts are as wide as the legshields and floorboards on the Bella.
