Keep grinding down front variator pulley's on runner 180.

Appears to be on correctly, torqued ok and not loose but must be rubbing on chaincase.

Should the chaincase have a gasket on which gives the clearance needed to stop this or should i be looking st something else?

No gasket required ....there is either a spacing problem on the front pulley or the belt isn't fitted in clutch proper before you do front pulley up....look on you tube shiney red has a few vids up how to do it properly ..an if you have no spacers on front pulley get some from local dealer simples .....
