Aye up chaps, Li resto continues. But what's the finish on the headset clamp supposed to be? Is it bare metal? Currently bit rusty.... cheers

I've only ever seen them bare metal. I use wire wheels in a drill to clean them up. Then spray them with clear lacquer.

P.S. sometimes on previously restored machines they may be bright plated.
