Not at all, just lifts out all the ingrained dirt. Phos acid is used as an ally cleaner and in higher %ages a rust remover..

Scooter Centre were selling Stage6 PWK type carbs with a black body - looked well trick IMO.
You could consider painting the carb body and have a polished bellmouth or something

I self polish my carbs with a 6in polishing mop kit from Machine Mart on a bench grinder. Kit comes complete with adaptor, coarse and fine mops + polishing compound. Use a fine hand file to remove any burrs etc and you should get a very reasonable shine to the carb body.

RICSPEED wrote:things like carbs don't chrome to well ,apart from the fact that they tend to have lots of angles ,holes and general knobbly bits that cant be polished easily, the chrome often wont get in to the corners as (correct me if I'm wrong) hydrogen gas is trapped in corners and this prevents the chrome from adhering
spot on mate, just like batterys give of gas during charging

Lol,
why put a spell checker on this site, the spelling mistakes are half the fun, then there are always the typing errors, and slips of the fingers, these all add to the fun of reading the posts.
Then there are people, who don`t know when to use commers,,,

Just noticed G.C.E. in 1964 so how old are you?? :D
No I won`t say a word

What about chrome powder coating?
Such as : http://www.the-polisher.com/id13.html

I'd have thought you could mask/block off all areas not requiring coating first a lot easier than if chroming...
If it aint broke.........tinker with it.....
