My latest scheme to die penniless has started.
Way back in 2008 I went to the Isle of Wight and beheld this:
Up until then, with the exception of a Vespa 50 in 1982 I'd been strictly a Lambretta only man and never so much as looked at a Vespa. However this was love at first site.
Two years later I'm looking through ebay at work when I see a familiar scoot. Sure enough it's the one from the IoW. Obviously it was fate and I bought it on a whim. The scoot was fine (although its a complete bitsa) and I even drove it from Kent to Dublin in 2010 where it won a trophy about the same size as the FA cup! (Not bad for a rally put on by the Lambretta Club of Ireland.)
It would have probably stayed as it was had I not gone to the vespa museum at Pontedera in 2011 and seen this:
A Six Day Racer from around 1951. Super sexy, rarer than hen's teeth and worth a fortune. I want one!
My scoot is the wrong model entirely and has a P200 Engine but I plan to make something in the spirit of the original. Modern engine and brakes in a sexy body.
The tank was the key to the whole concept and after a lot of looking I found someone who made this
So the strip down has begun...
With good luck it should be ready for next Summer.

The Sri Giorni is probably one of the best designs ever.
Far more beautiful than anything Innocenti was doing ay the time.
I've seen that twice,it doesn't get boring to look at,they should fire it up at the museum.

Just a few bits to get.....
GS wide panels, cut to resemble the originals, handlebars and speedo, lights, fan cover........
Plus a hydraulic disc conversion, a good touring motor, dc conversion and battery.....
...and then painted.
Lots of dosh! Never mind, can't take it with you!

I thought about it but twin 10" spares is a bit too big. It doesn't look the same with modern rims either. I'll stick with just one I think.jimmers wrote:twin spares with map holder looks cool. must do that bit too
A couple of problems have arisen
One, the sip shock mount means that the holes at the back of the body are in the wrong place. Five minutes work to weld them over and redrill, but then the lugs for the tank will be wrong! F**K!!!
Two, No one does a speedo mount that works with aftermarket handlebars. SIP's one only fits original ones, not remade which are slightly different.
I'm sure I'll think of something but its a pain in the arse, especially the tank mountings needing redoing.
