Some of you may remember that I was building an Li125 S3 1962 from scratch, total wreck, the frame was bent, dinged and in a pitiful state. I'd decided that I wanted the Special look as I just love that design, I had many problems along the way, ill-fitting parts, parts that failed to work at all or only partly at best. My original scooter in 1960's was a Li150 S2 that I'd reworked extensively into a S3, I sprayed it gold and black, this one I have done black and gold (nearly finished - due to loved ones damaging the paintwork had to redo a number of times  )

Virtually nothing could be saved from the original frame, too badly damaged or rusted completely, besides the frame loop that I straightened out and repaired, the air scoop, petrol flap, rear light housing and toolbox door were the only things I could repair and use.

The engine is an Li125 1963 completely reworked and repaired, usual stud repairs (heli-coiled or over size tapped out) Fitted a later model chaincase with strengthening ribs, had a lot of problems with kick start shafts, had one snap on splined end, got a repro SX kick start.

Drive side has 47/18 sprockets, Teflon tensioner, new chain, clutch sprocket is lightened and recessed, SX150 gearbox, 5-plate 10x spring clutch, new bearings/seals. BGM Stator, Rectifier and CDI unit, SIL Flywheel (you may remember I'd stripped the flywheel nut  ) Coaster came over and found the LT coil was low output, so I changed everything for BGM products, and hey presto, started first kick. Carb is attached to an MB inlet manifold, a Dellorto PHBL 22 BS with an AQ264, D22 2nd clip, 40 slide, 115 main jet, 50 pilot, 60 choke. Originally I had a cable operated choke but had probs with it functioning properly changed it to manual, no probs now. Top end has 200cc Alloy/steel conversion, chrome flywheel/cowling cover, Stainless Tank and straps, 42mm big bore exhaust

Also removed the stainless steel petrol tap lever guide as found it was interfering with its function replaced it with standard rubber, perfect. Also changed the fast-flow tap for a rearward facing one with warning light, also wired in with two lights, works beautifully, fitted just under double leg shield at the top.

She's also fitted with S2 TV175 front forks and dampers, S1 tyres, TV drop handles bars, new design combined 4 in 1 backrest, Ancillotti seat, Stainless steel Double leg shield trim.

Still changing bits and bobs but she rides ok, bit smoky for some reason, using 3% mix fully synth SIP oil, completed 50 mls without hitch, little bit boggy but haven't run in yet so bit difficult to sort out, so here she is again, nearly finished but on the road at last!!!

Well done Bernie, I didn't realize to mess that you started with, you should be rightly proud of what you have achieved 8-)

You are going to tidy up the wiring to the warning lights though :o ;)

The before and after pictures are amazing and if you did it all yourself instead of paying out wads of money to people to do it for you then you will feel as proud as punch.
I know paying for the parts is more than enough money wise, we all know parts that arrive in the post "only cost 20 quid love" Well done that man.

Yep did all myself including spraying, did exaggerate downwards when wifey asked how much items cost  When I built her, I just could see in my minds eye how she could be with a lot of TLC, it was expensive to build over 4k including replacing the inevitable useless parts that neither worked or only partly functioned  Most of the work has been done apart from scratching the damn side panels again :( Still needs to be run in, don't no why she's so smoky, using SIP fully syn oil 3% mix, I don't think the drive side seals blown as when I cover the exhaust tailpipe she cuts out almost immediately, so don't know, bit boggy when I gun the engine in 4th, open up slowly picks nicely then :?

The cabling for the warning lights will be eventually fixed to the double beading via the fixing screws but can't find what I'm looking for, need either plastic or metal clips that I can drill and fix, haven't forgotten colin

hope to see you soon mr coaster :D
