...Or maybe a bit longer...

Firstly, I'll probably have loads of questions on this as, not only being a Winter Model, I have no experience of the Series 2. This is why I'm posting here and on LCGB, it may help others too ;)

Anyway, I picked this up the other day

Bit Tatty, but all there, then I began the strip down

...and some of the horrors

Most of which I can deal with, but this is a problem...

This is nice though, real metal..

This is nasty, but not a massive issue

And this is where I am at the moment

So that's the front stripped. The plan is to strip out the frame loop and get it all blasted. I'll then hand it over to my panel beater to see what I can salvage and make good ready for paint or powdercoat. I've had a scheme in mind for a number of years and hope to realise it on this, but it won't be a standard resto, but something a little different I hope. I'll worry about the engine later.

For now I already have a list of spares needed, in good or repairable condition, so if anyone can help...?

First off is a light rim, or the possibility to repair mine??
Stand
1x Handlebar lever
Panel handles
Carello rear light lens
Toolbox door & lock
Petrol tap lever
Top nut for forks (C spanner nut)

All help and advice on this project is appreciated ;-)

Not sure what can be done about the headlight rim. I'd say it might be possible to twist it back into shape with your bare hands normally. But it looks as if it is cracked so if you can't get it repaired you're going to need another, which might be tricky. I've found in the past that Spanish rims are a different fit to Italian.

I'm unclear what that shattered piece of casing is. Is that the steering lock in the headset?

Doesn't seem to be anything that can't be repaired as regards the bodywork though.

Yeah, I think I really need some luck with a rim.
The shattered piece is the steering lock.

The bodywork will go to one of my customers who has experience with panel beating/metal finishing and car restoration, he also owes me a few favours ;-)

A winter model is a curious blend of Series two and SX manufactured in Spain. Note the SII bodywork and the unusual style SX headset, and the turning front mudguard.

I look forward to seeing how this develops Mike. You're just the man to make something interesting from this machine.

Mike, I think you'll have to bin that headlight rim, as even if it could be repaired, I think it's pitted too badly to be rechromed. Good luck with the resto and keep posting photos ;)
