Heres a few pics of my new project, and maybe next years rally ride. ;)
I brought it from a friend who crashed it on the way to the euro in Ireland last year (read last months "into the sunset" in scootering)

Snapped headset :(

Back pushed in :( bent forks :( and frame tube :(

So it was stripped and blasted, the frame went to Grand sport for straightening. They dont straighten fork so i did them my self with the aid of a scaffold bar, an immoveable object and a straight edge, and a good (hopefully :? ) eye . Ill have to see how it rides ?
I brought a headset top of a friend of a friend so i could get the headset lined up and welded ;)

So now im on with the body work and painting. The sand blasting revealed the leggies and front mudguard had seen better days :o so after an hour or so of panel beating a bit of welding, acid etch primer, then filling and sanding, more panel beating , more filling and sanding more primer, more filler, more sanding, high build primer, stopper, more sanding,

and then some paint :D more sanding :(
This is were i am at the moment :D

more to follow :D

thats some amount of work youve carried out there im well impressed

on your last photo ive noticed that you have put in a couple of angles between the frame outriggers

any reason for that - was it part of the frame straightening proceedure?

cheers eddie

Well its been a while since i posted an update on this, mainly because ive been to busy with work, to do anything on it, but also a couple of problems which took some time to resolve.
Ive got a Frank sanderson anti dive disk and wanted to fit tubless rims on it.
The problem is the caliper is on the mag side and hits the valve :( .
The solution is to take the hub apart, and flip everything over, weld the tie bar lug on the other side of the forks :) .

The next problem is the speedo drive then need to be on the mag side , but this then spins the cable the wrong way
The solution take the drive apart and flip that over :) .

So i then fit the rim and realise that the hub/rim is not central and there are no more spacers to take out to centralise it :(
The solution, take apart again and put it in the lathe and machine it down , put it all back together, bish bosh jobs a gud un :D

I didnt want to cut the headset to fit the hydraulic hose, but through the switch housing ( a la Jason Frost method lol) ive done it before, and you need the hose and fittting that you make up yourself, a bit like plumbing fittings. so off i go to the local hydraulic specialist, "sorry we've stopped doing them, we only do the crimped ones now" arrrggghhhh :( :(
Image

I wanted the footboard to have grip tape on instead of runners, i also wanted them fixed down without the nuts on the bottom , as they are a pain in the arse  . The original plan was to use Dzus fastners, but i couldn't get them to work satisfactory :( so id shelved the idea and was going to go back to nuts , when i found a u clip in my box of bits and pieces. I quickly cliped it on and it worked a treat :D
Image

The engine has been holding me up as well :( mainly because i cant decide whether to water cool or not :? as this is going to be my rally bike for next year i have decide not to w/c on the basis of K.I.S.S ( keep it simple stupid !) So its going to be a TS with a road tune, 58 (kiss), 60, or 62mm crank is the next decision :?
Ill post a few more pics over the next few days :)
