Re: Starting after top-end rebuild and new carb

That's a good point and I will need to look at the adjustment. I have a few things to look at and don't think I am far off from sorting this out. To answer your question the choke was on when it died.

Thanks

Re: Starting after top-end rebuild and new carb

Hi, Just a quick update - went and played round with carb settings today (first chance I have had) so now running on : Pilot - 45 Atomiser - 5699-2 Main - 118 Starter Jet - 50 So once fitted it started 3 / 4th kick - so a decent improvement, However after about 30 seconds died on me and it was trick...

Re: Starting after top-end rebuild and new carb

Spark seems ok but wondered if there was a good way of measuring the quality and strength of a spark?

Re: Starting after top-end rebuild and new carb

Hi both, that was plan C that you have uncovered! I am going to go with the carb setup first and then failing that it was going to be timing. I have a strobe gun and a willing accomplice so that is a good one to check as well.

Hi Paul, yes agree. Just want to get the thing started so will revert to the 118 I started with as well.

Re: Starting after top-end rebuild and new carb

Hi Nick, First point of call is the other slide with the 5899-2 Atomiser which is sitting on my desk with a 45 pilot. The main I plan continue to use the 112 (as it was fine running and a good colour on the plug). My main need is to get it starting better.

Re: Starting after top-end rebuild and new carb

Hi Nick, No offence taken and its good to see others helping those less knowledgeable so many thanks!!!

Paul, I have the other slide (e.g. the 200 as I think I made the decision to use the 150 one when I got the option) so I am going to try that as a first port of call and then report back findings.

Re: Starting after top-end rebuild and new carb

So with the 22mm scootopia carb you get two slides. One for a 200cc with a 5899-2 atomiser. You also get one for 150cc with a 5899-4 atomiser. My thought at this point is how much difference is there between the two slides in terms of what they do in the start-up process?

Re: Starting after top-end rebuild and new carb

Thanks for clearing that one up. I have only ever used Dell orto so my knowledge of others isn't great (apologies) OK so choke is working and adjusted so its open 3/4 way round and also no more than a 1/4 of throttle when kicking over. Maybe I do have a poor starting technique?!? - one thing for sur...

Re: Starting after top-end rebuild and new carb

Hi Paul, Thanks for the thoughts. Not sure the float is going to make masses of difference to me as I think its something else. In that I am thinking of electrics - for example not sure how I can measure spark strength - I do have a spark but not sure how strong it is. The other thought I have is th...
