You'll be ok with a diablo long range tank, they don't use the out rigger fixing points. Not the cheapest tank but by far the best. He can be contacted on here.

Have you checked your frame behind your engine mounts, they have been known to snap here.

Have you greased the seal?
Take you crank out and try fitting your mag housing to your casing, if that fits try fitting your crank into your mag housing.

Sounds like your choke isn't working, can you see your choke plunger moving up and down when you operate the cable? Could try getting someone to put their hand over the mouth of the carb whilst you kick it, see if it tries to start then.

I run a 30 vhsh on my ts 230, exellent carb in my opinion.
Whether or not it's worth the extra money i have no idea.
