Did one on Saturday, same problem, Stator braking down, check for low reading.
It ran exactly as you have stated before.

The exterior of the exhaust port is exactly the same a standard big bore exhaust gasket, it was made like that so most stubs would be able to fit!

Just a reminder about ignition timing, will everyone please check their timing with a strobe as the timing marks can and normally are a mile out.

Had a similar problem a number of weeks ago, on a complete engine build. Turned out to be a nos Spanish gear selector that I had fitted. One other thing I should have pointed out is that the "out of the box" port configuaration restricts the RPM to around 8,500 max depending on what pipe / gearing you are using
