Re: Mag Side Bearing Race Issue

Pulled the engine apart and trammed the cases/bearing surfaces. Turns out there was +/- 0.015 difference side to side on the drive side bearing surface, even more on the mag flange. Ended up machining both the drive side bearing surface a touch as well as the mag flange mounting surface of the case ...

Re: Mag Side Bearing Race Issue

Muppet,

Looks like the bearing is an NU2205EG15J30. I don't think it's C3 with the larger internal clearance. Is the C3 designed for slight misalignment?

Looking at a NU2205-E-TVP2-C3. Anybody use one?

Re: Mag Side Bearing Race Issue

Thanks for all the replies! I can't remember heating the race during installation, but I may have had to and that could very well have softened the race. I don't recall the installation being an issue, but that doesn't mean it didn't take a little heat to drive it on. I will definitely keep this in ...

Mag Side Bearing Race Issue

Check the pics. Very few miles on this motor and the mag side crank race is looking pretty beat. I have a few ideas as to what could have caused this but before I go down another rabbit hole, thought I'd ask and see if there's a common issue that might be arising. My bet is on the bearing not being ...

Re: Detonation, lean seizure, or....?

Tore the motor down this afternoon and upon dry reassembly found a couple interesting things that I either overlooked or thought I'd compensated for. First up, piston raised 1.5mm above top of barrel... https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4736/39400763601_d8f3c707c8_h.jpg IMG_6231 by PotvinV8 , on Flickr...

Re: Rotax 300 builld

The EGT gauge arrived today from Classic Instruments. These guys do custom gauges for us all the time for hot rods and customs and whatnot, so it made sense to give them a call to get an EGT gauge that matched the R6 cluster. I think it will look pretty good when it's all said and done, and will hop...

Re: Detonation, lean seizure, or....?

Good points all around! I will definitely be looking closer at the combustion chamber as the new top end goes back together, including cc'ing the unit. Stock Ski Doo squish spec is 1.2 to 1.7mm and if I remember correctly, it was smaller than that, hence the cut. I already have a new head, piston, a...

Re: Detonation, lean seizure, or....?

That's for the compression release for the electric starter.
