Re: port timings

I'd be a bit more conservative at Exhaust 170 Transfer 125 Inlet 145 With the box pipe anything over 170/172 exhaust will kill too much bottom end and the pipe won't rev high enough to take advantage of the top end potential. At 150 inlet it'll work well but with lots of spitback 145 is a good compr...

Re: kickstart issue - any thoughts?

I've got the same problem, I'm going to try Wacks suggestion as its a lot less hassle.

Re: Which ignition retard

So . . . . . . petrol burns at a uniform speed in a four stroke, but in a 2 stroke the petroil mixture senses that the revs are higher, and burns faster and faster as the engine speed rises.

Ok I'm sorry I was wrong, and I bow to your superior understanding of special physics.

Re: Con rod not sitting central in piston.

I'd certainly trust a bike builder to put a crank together for me. RE "they all break" I'm still usimg the 60mm crank I bought from you. It's one that they have started saying breaks, but it's wotking fine in my engine. I've had 3 "supercranks go bad on me (one twisting and 2 losing t...

Re: Which ignition retard

You're absolutely right that variable ignition timing is better than static Adam, but it needs to advance as the revs rise, Rearding as the revs rise is a way of stopping an engine with too high compression, poor head design, wrong squish, etc grenading. A correctly set up motor with the ignition ad...

Re: Which ignition retard

Why fit a device that simply allows you to over advance the ignition timing at low revs then takes it back to (something aproximating) normal at high revs. Doing this makes the assumption that pre ignition at low revs is acceptable . . . . . it isn't. Set your timing at 18 BTDC on an Avanti and use ...

Re: rear hubs

Use SIL!!!!

I've fitted a UNI and its oval. The SIL Hubs are heavier than anything but a Tino safety hub. I know somwone who has a safety hub and that's oval as well.
