Ouch! Glad to hear you lived to fight another day. Must admit I've run Conti Twist tyres and always thought they were a good compromise between grip and wear. They seem to have lasted well enough in any case. The trouble is though that they can change the source of a tyres manufacture sometimes, so ...

Hmmm... I have used stainless in the past for certain items where it would seem to make sense. But I've never gone overboard for it to the extent that I would fit out an entire scooter with it. Maybe that's the key.

Stainless or plated fixings?
Forget about Europe and all that. This is one of the most important questions of our time. Some prefer stainless fixings, others don't. I'm not entirely sure why. Something that doesn't rust would seem reasonable. Or is it just a question of authenticity?
