running in GT186

I should have my first lambretta engine running this weekend. It's a gt186. I've used rich Taylor's jetting advice plus a little bit so that I'm slightly rich. I'm not sure what to do about oil. Do I go 4%? I've also been advised to use mineral oil during running in. I appreciate that there are opin...

If you really can't make up your mind why not copy this classic colour scheme?

Re: Lambretta HID conversion

The difference looks world's apart, but what about the heat build up, as I have bosetta plastic lens from pm tuning, I imagine it would burn it easily. Triumph tigers have terrible headlights so quite a few have fitted hid. They also have plastic lenses. I've seen several which have burnt due to th...

If anyone needs a certificate of authenticity (for anything) please send £50 in used notes and I will be more than happy to provide documentation on quite good quality paper.

Re: My Li225 Special

When you take into account not only the spinning of the clutch basket, but the movement of the gears, layshaft, rear hub and wheel, not to mention the weight of the rider, the saving made by having a lighter clutch basket must be miniscule by comparison and only noticeable at tick over speed. I know wha...

Re: My Li225 Special

It's inertia that matters, not mass. For linear motion mass and inertia are the same thing. For rotation inertia is measured in kg metres squared. So if you remove mass from the edge of a wheel it helps many times more than if it is removed from the centre. If one gramme is twice as far from the cen...

Re: GT186 squish

Thanks for help gents.

I hadn't considered the impact on port timings. We're not talking huge amounts here but I'd rather keep them higher than lower so I'll raise the barrel rather than the head.

Extra base gaskets ordered from the very helpful Rich Taylor.

Re: soldering

That is usually caused by applying an iron to the job before it's had time to heat up properly. all the time that you're waiting for the solder to melt, the heat from the iron is being conducted down the wire and that's what melts the insulation. Wait for ages before picking the soldering iron up. J...

GT186 squish

I've just fitted a GT186. I have no head gasket (instant gasket instead) and squish is 1.0mm. this is an accurate figure as I measured 4 points at the same time. Is this a little too low and would I be better adding a head gasket? I know it will be safer, but will I lose performance for no real reli...
