Cant pick the buggers up with a magnet :x and with fourteen side case washers to deal with, it can add a lot of time. Try taking the rubber kickstart bump stop out until then. It'll let the kickstart go up a hair and may solve the prob.

Go to a hardware shop and get a long 6mm bolt and cut it to size. Or buy a lentgh of 6mm threaded rod and cut as many as you want.

Quick tip.
When I'm putting a trans. together, I usally check shim clearance withouth the dowels or christmas tree fitted. Make taking it apart and puting it back together again a whloe lot quicker and easier.

Machineists bluing ink works well for that also. It's a little thinner. I usually just put the sidecase on with three or four nuts and turn it over with the kickstart when the motor is on the bench and check for rubbing. Saves a lot of time.

Do you lot have PB Blaster over there? It's an excellent de-siezer, loads better than WD40. Do not let it sit on white paint for more than a few seconds, it will get sucked into the paint and cannot be removed.
Drastic measures on that fork cutting and welding. Got a picture of the finished result?
