the most important thing is to not widen inlet too much ,as this of course leaves less support either side for piston.............. piston holes can only be in line with this.......... have seen pistons that have been cut as a reverse V instead of having windows, this will reduce the support the of...

as far as i understand it.................on power stroke ,the ex side of piston is "major "thrust surface.............this is in effect pressed down (above gudgeon pin)..........and so inlet skirt side is pressed up (below gudgeon pin)...............this has the effect of scraping the oi...

basically dave.........a longer con rod will reduce side thrust..........major and minor...... and for eg ..........a short stroke/short con rod set up will suffer most.......... also i wonder why your interested in this question......and hope your concerns are not confused with excessive bore wear...

Got that :) but here goes again and where i really started to confuse myself as the conrod descends is the thrust on one side totally ie the exhaust side or does the piston tilt slightly so rings exhaust side and skirt on inlet sorry to waste your evening smiffy explaining the basics to a numpty :lol:
