Re: Striped barrel stud

I am fine with your opinion but fail to see how drilling and taping a larger thread is "messing around". I mean if we re weld we still have to drill and tap. We could also drill and re-tap to 10mm instead of 9.5mm but then we have to find a stud. . The OP has already found a source for the...

Re: Striped barrel stud

https://www.beedspeed.com/fastener-repair-stud-38th-whitworth-166mm-long-p-8206.html this is the stud in question OK that will work 3/8 is 9.5mm. So now it all comes down to price and availability. Can you find a 3/8 Whitworth tap set for the same or less than a 8mm Helicoil thread repair kit which...

Re: Striped barrel stud

Most industry hasn't used any Imperial sizes since the late '60's. Except maybe in the US and even then rarely. For construction industry maybe where they use bulk nuts and matching bolts to go through holes drilled with Imperial drills.

Re: Striped barrel stud

I don't think so 3/8 Whitworth has too coarse thread unless you are using the same thread stud. I you are going to 9mm the standard coarse thread is 1.25 pitch. Std. 3/8 (UNF) fine has a pitch of 1.2mm close enough but too large a diameter. Whitworth is 1.6mm Unless there is something about your cho...

Re: Refueling routine. It's been a long time

He doesn't use it. It just sits in a shed. He is the original owner since new or rather has owned it since Early '70's. He may not have purchased it new so I cannot claim him to be the "original" owner. I'll be conservative and use Shell VSX at 3% unless it smokes too much. On the lifespan...

Re: Striped barrel stud

I think it depends on what size the originals are and what size one you are going to use.Are you suggesting you retap the hole 3/8ths Imperial?

Re: Scootering 2-Stroke Oil Article

Initially i thought this was an thread/article about oil but maybe I'm missing the whole thing.

Are we saying that nowadays the only convenient place to buy two-stroke oil is at a garden centre?

Re: Scootering 2-Stroke Oil Article

Admittedly not Lambretta and not air cooled but I have done many miles on my Honda NSR250 (changed to 300) cruises at 9500 RPM. I use Shell VSX as the fully synthetic version is not available here.
It is not expensive and readily available.

Vintage riding with hand signals. How you get on?

Do modern drivers even know what hand signals are?
