Have you got the fixing brackets the wrong way round?

I was riding my TS1 and the JL4 (Taffspeed Race) downpipe hit the curb as I was following the vespa club of warsaw group ride. It was at night and I didn't notice there was a curb to jump up and over, something you can't do with a JL4. The impact was enough to bend the exhaust flange and distort it...

Sounds like the spring is worn but strip down and check all parts the plunger teeth may be worn as well if you look on scooter restorations site there's a parts diagram for the kickstart shaft assembly that gives you an idea of what you may need mate
