Re: Could it be the reeds

Just out of curiosity, what are "reeds"?

Fitting Gear Cables

When I fitted my gear cables on my Series 2, I did it with the gearbox in neutral. I was told recently that it's better to do it with the gearbox in 4th, but I couldn't really understand the logic in that.

Is there any logic, or doesn't it matter?

Two Stroke Oil

Which do you use? Mineral, semi synthetic or fully synthetic and why?

I use fully synthetic on the assumption that it will keep any carbon deposits to minimum. Am I correct in my assumption?

I actually had one of those back in the 70s. Got stopped for a roadside check by the bobbies: "Is that your audible warning device?" "Yes" parp parp. :D

Which Gearbox Oil?

What are people using in a standard gearbox these days?

The book says SAE 90. The nearest I can find is an SAE 80, or a synthetic 75w-90w.

Are either suitable?

Re: Front Brake Cable

You can lubricate from the bottom end
Yeah, that's what I did in the end.

I couldn't get the top end free. Thought if I've got to pull this hard to try and get it out, when I get it out, it's going to be a bugger to get it back.

Re: Front Brake Cable

Thanks. That's what I was thinking, but it looks a bit tight in the housing with the lighting cable and the throttle rod. Just concerned about getting the outer cable back in place.

Front Brake Cable

What's the easiest way to lubricate the front brake cable on a Series 2? At the moment it looks like I've got to remove the light switch and wiring to be able to pull out the whole cable in order to dribble oil down it.

Is there another way?

Re: Gear Box Oil

Thanks. No sediment and the mag plug is clear.
