Re: 172 holed piston nearly

Ideally you need the correct piston for the barrel, if you've melted the piston crown I don't think you'll be able to see which letter it was??? Perhaps you could have it measured by a grown up and work it out from there? As for carb settings......... last 172 reed I played with had 40 slide, 50 idl...

Re: 172 holed piston nearly

I think the barrel should be stamped with the corresponding letter mate, all down to tolerances I think.

Re: 172 holed piston nearly

Turning clockwise advances timing so if you've turned your stator by 5 degrees you're now running at 21 degrees BTDC, not good.
Retard it back to standard kid.

Re: vespa t5 gearing

67/21 = 3.19:1
67/22 = 3.05:1

It'd definately help keep you in the power band and be better on hills and into a headwind.

Re: vespa t5 gearing

Had 21/68 on mine and it went like s**t off a chrome stick (with a Taffy Goldline).........
21/68 = 3.24:1
22/68 = 3.09:1
23/67 = 2.91:1

I'd say that yes you are a bit overgeared.
