chain guide

I've just dry-fitted a 'performance' chain guide which I bought from eBay and is an obvious copy of the Cambridge green plastic one. I have 18/47 sprockets. the lower guide is pushing the bottom chain run approximately 4mm upwards (from the front to the centre of the run, but getting better toward t...

Re: gear alignment

gents, you're both right; i haven't fitted the clutch and yes it will obviously pull the cluster out. but now i'm left wondering if it will pull it too far and how on earth i would check this. maybe it won't pull it far enough. maybe i should stop asking questions and just see if it works properly a...

gear alignment

i am building a li125 s3 gearbox. there is approx 0.5mm misalignment between the gear cluster and loose gears the only way i can see to correct this is to change the cluster shim to one which is 0.5mm thicker (standard is 1.0mm), but i don't believe there is anything other than a standard shim. also...

You need to fit a longer small end bearing so there is no side float.Dont use shims.

piston/gudgeon shims

gents, building my first lambretta engine, so forgive any stupid questions i have a mec crank with shimmed big end. I'm using a 185 SR (sort of) kit that a local lad (with a good reputation) has tuned for me. I have a 22mm small end bearing but there is still room (about 2.4mm) left on the gudgeon p...

Re: Drive side seal retainer

In case its ever of use to someone else...... Two problems: Firstly, the halite washer I had was 2.5mm uncompressed as oppposed to 1.5mm uncompressed on the new one. Secondly, I used an mb retainer plate which is 0.7mm thinner. After I had finished I only had 0.6mm clearance betweeen the crank and c...

Re: blue bearing

I should have put it in the oven like I usually do but I was being lazy. Ordered a drift now anyway, so I'll warm it gently to 150c or so if it doesn't go on too easily with the drift. Just got to get the "blued" one off my brand new crank now. Time to crack out the bearing puller that com...

Why did you heat it at all? They usually knock right on with the right tool (which is cheaper than a new bearing).
Just followed sticky's advice: if you don't have the correct tool etc........

Re: blue bearing

Bugger. In my heart I knew it was dead, but I was hoping there would be enough people telling me not to be stupid and they all did that.

Anyone got just an unused inner race for sale? Skf only........thought not. Wallet open again.

blue bearing

In order to fit the inner race of the mag side bearing to my crank I heated it with a heat gun. After I fitted it (with consumate ease), I noticed that I had "blued" it with the heat. My question is; is my inner race f@@ked? I hope not as I can't be arsed to replace it, especially on a bra...
