Re: lambretta 290 rotax

Looking good Holty! What kind of coolant temps are you seeing? Must be maintaining decent temps otherwise that overflow tube would be giving you quite the surprise once it got hot! :D I'm running similar initial timing specs, 17 degrees BTDC, total around 24 for now. Will play with it a bit, but it ...

Re: lambretta 290 rotax

Sounds good Holty and a decent number to boot eh?! Glad to see it's going well! What sort of timing curve are you using?

Re: Rotax 300 builld

A couple from tonight. Had a blast 'round the neighborhood and things feel very promising.

Re: AFR Installation - PX200

I use one on my Rotax-barrelled Lambretta. Here's a shot of the pipe before I welded the bung in that shows where I located it in relation to the header. I was very pleased with the capability and how quickly I was able to set up the carb. Good luck! https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4371/36927523425_d...

Re: Rotax 300 builld

Thanks Holty!

Get her kicked off tonight without incident. Sounds good! Hoping to have a chance tomorrow to check timing and then have a putt around the block.

Re: Rotax 300 builld

Got the motor back together and everything looks really good. With as much one-off fabrication involved as this project has, it's hard to decide how far to take something without knowing if it will work or not. I think that's one of the biggest factors that went into the initial failure; lack of att...

Re: Rotax 300 builld

Thanks Adam! While I'm waiting for a couple small parts from Jet200.com, I thought I'd install the EGT gauge from Classic Instruments. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4675/39979889341_ac5f0cb113_h.jpg IMG_6327 by PotvinV8 , on Flickr Decided to mount it up on the inner legshield so that I can see it ...

Re: Rotax 300 builld

Ended up machining the drive side bearing surface as well as the mag flange mating surface while the engine was apart as it had a beat up bearing race on the mag flange end. Guessing it came down to misalignment due to all the welding done to the cases. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4699/2506678629...

Re: Detonation, lean seizure, or....?

P.S. Garry, I think you nailed it! The high combustion ratio and the piston crown hanging over the exhaust port was too much for the piston to handle is my guess. P.P.S Holty, I ordered a pipe for a KTM 300 just for kicks and guess what? The stinger is the same diameter as the one I used on the dyno...

Re: Detonation, lean seizure, or....?

Ordered a set of 1.2mm base gaskets, apparently the thickest base gaskets available, and dry assembled everything to see where we sit. This is with a new cylinder/piston/head and the 1.2mm gasket: Squish is 1.016mm (0.040”) with 0.381mm (0.015”) positive deck height. Stock Skidoo spec is 1.5-1.7mm (...
