If it's from the gasket face, Darrell Taylor does some lovely thick gaskets that compensate for minor damage and heat distortions really well. They've worked for me a couple of times.

It's not just about compression ratio. As already pointed out, it's the lever, or rather the ratio of engine revolutions versus distance of lever travel. Scooter restorations definitely sells. If I were a betting man I'd bet £1 that scootopia do too. Scootopia don’t seem to sell them separate from the handles.
