The resistance wire is fitted internally in the loom, so it's appearance would be no different to a standard one.

No, I'm talking about a piece of resistance wire inserted into the loom green of original electronics, the ignition was killed by going through this resistance to earth not a dead short.

Firstly check for power on the loom brown in the headset. From here power should enter the ignition switch, and when the key is in the 3rd position, come out on the orange wire. I assume that when he states "the stator must output 30v" he is measuring it unloaded ,ie direct from the stator without it being connected to the reg. I believe even Indian ones are capable of this.

If it was working at first I would recheck the connections in the headset to see if any have come loose. The speedo light missing will have no affect on the other lights, unless it's wire was shorting to earth.

Hi John, was the stator you replaced a BGM one? I'm sure I've read somewhere about pick up alignment issues between AF flywheels and BGM stators. I think it was on the LCUSA site, perhaps MarkH on here may know.

Agree it's probably the J reg that's sold it. But there's no law to stop anyone putting an older plate on a newer machine, it's the other way round you can't do.
