Re: Continually seizing with panels on

OK, off to get a price for the tools. I've enjoyed rebuilding the frame/body/forks from a box of bits and tbh feel more confident riding when I know how everything fits together. The only thing I haven't done is take an engine apart (except cylinder/head/piston) so at least this will be a bit more l...

Re: Continually seizing with panels on

Think I could do that Adam, it's the next bit that gets me :? you have to dismantle the flywheel and line up marks on the flywheel and flange and then if necessary move the stator so that two white lines in the window line up with one on the pickup :? :? I'll see what the cost of the tools is compar...

Re: Continually seizing with panels on

It does sound like hard work muppet, and after Rosscla's quote I just had a look on Scooterhelp and I'm thinking buy a flywheel removal tool :o Buy a flywheel holding tool :o buy a timing gun :o Jesus, does the spending ever end!! And then I might mess it up :( That said if I need to buy a whole new...

Re: Continually seizing with panels on

OK thanks Adam and all for advice. Seems like there is a cause to the overheating and it's not especially obvious. It does get stupidly hot and I don't want to be ruining what I have already done. I'll read through stickys book and see if I feel capable of changing the timing. Was trying to get away...

Re: Continually seizing with panels on

Gearbox oil is Castrol and brand new and and was just starting to come out of level plug on the flat, so happy there. I'll get my head in Sticky's book and read up on timing, sure I can borrow a strobe from somewhere. As its electronic and starts so well I always presumed it was ok, again it would h...

Re: Continually seizing with panels on

Thanks L A D, after reading a few replies I'll definately change to super unleaded, never thought it would make a difference but obviously I've missed a trick. I use Rock oil or Putoline so think that's ok. I have also just changed the plug for a 9 so will give it a run tomorrow. Had thougth about t...

Re: Continually seizing with panels on

I do have stickys first edition. It's already saved me £'s :fb: I took my whole scooter apart for first time, stripped it, painted it, re-assembled and it started second kick :) I'll read up on the squish bit, I do have a rough idea. How much is a head skim? Is it almost worth buying a new head fro...

Re: Continually seizing with panels on

OK, thanks Dean. It may be getting a bit beyond my capabilities (check the squish :? ) to correct the problems so I think it best I spend a little money with an expert rather than potentially keep putting pressure on the bottom end and end up paying more. I have seen a mechanic in my area http://www...

Re: Continually seizing with panels on

OK, thanks for comments chaps. There is scoring in the barrel (didn't think too bad though) and I bought the af kit after I had similiar issues with the original head that had been bored out to 175. Sorry had to take a break and watch the scooters at the Olympic closing ceremony :) :) :) :) :) The o...

Re: Continually seizing with panels on

Thanks Col, I was looking at all my discarded bits from when I brought this scooter (ten years ago :( ) and it looks like I used to use 9 spark plugs, can't remember when or why I changed :? I didn't take the plug out for about an hour as it was stupidly hot. I get my petrol from an independant with...
