Re: Cheap 5/6 plate clutch
As if to prove myself wrong, I managed to squeeze six Camlam plates & steels into standard components yesterday (the crownwheel was de-rivetted & the slots deepened prior to reassembly with M5 button head socket screws tapped into the sprocket part) The only significant modification was to r...

Re: ? About wrist pin shims vs wider small end bearing
I've always fitted the widest small end bearing that will fit. That said, I don't have an issue with proper shims. A crankshaft will work without shims either side of the big end bearing, but not really preferable. I have seen overheated con rod sides as the result, so if the float can be practicall...

Re: Cheap 5/6 plate clutch
With any clutch requiring additional plates, there are compromises if attempting to use standard components & five is the greatest practicable maximum. Most users will require the strongest spring set that will fit, but they shouldn't be allowed to get coilbound & although that may be obviou...

Re: Mugello 240 ??
For those that may be unaware, a small tailpipe on an exhaust is an easy way to increase the torque of an engine, but @ a cost. Particularly on a 200cc plus engine, with any guts, I would always use a minimum of one inch (25 mm) bore bleed to an exhaust for peace of mind & reliability. Despite s...

Re: Impurities or alloys that complicate case or headset welding?
Die casting of alloys usually includes metals that will improve the finished result from the aspect of appearance & performance. It's not an easy process for the foundry to get spot on. As a youth, struggling to earn money in a summer holiday job, I inspected (keg) beer barrel handles, one of th...

Re: Which way towards exhaust on this piston?
Look at the ring pegs That side goes towards the carb inlet port on your cylinder Not only that, but the large frame engines have specific piston skirt cutouts that are asymmetric to align with the crankcase & cylinder transfer ports. I have no idea of the worth to cutting the piston & cyli...

Re: Mugello 240 ??
Another quick question, which I may already have missed comment on... I don't suppose that you're running an advance/retard ignition are you? I ask as this could also explain why the bike is running hot at running in revs in 4th but cools when you down-change and/or 'give it some (an advance/retard...

Re: Mugello 240 ??
I can well imagine there being problems with such a large bore all cast iron cylinder. I possess Mugellos & Rapido amongst other cylinders, but would suggest that the Rapido is a very good cylinder to opt for if you do swap. The longer stroke that you would maintain is an ideal opportunity to o...

Re: Motoplat ignition coil
Points type Oops! My mistake in presuming that you had an electronic set up. IMHO that is a good thing as, despite the World & his wife changing to electronic for "reliability" a well set up points system will prove itself more durable & can be easier to fix, should it go w...
