Re: brass exhaust nuts
They're supposed to go on with hex. side to the manifold flange with a spring washer underneath. This way gives the greatest surface area contact. They are made of brass because the combination of extreme heat and exposure to the elements, would make steel versions lock solid on the studs in no tim...

Re: brass exhaust nuts
sorry Andy- I disagree. They are supposed to go on with the "round" bit against the manifold flange- the area is so tight, it is very hard to tighten them up if its done your way. Check out page 18 of the old work shop manual (4th edition) Chris so would you use a washer and if so which o...

Re: brass exhaust nuts
There supposed to go on with the round side towards the engine, when there tightened that side crushes against the stud and locks it into place. There made out of brass because the heat doesn't effect them, unlike steel on steel and there supposed to be easier to remove.

Re: Pull down or push up?
I think an adjustable guide is a good idea, but having seen this one,I will leave it.I think you have been lucky so far,the engineering gone into it leaves alot to be desired. If I were you,I would change it ASAP.Only my opinion,so dont take it to heart. Can you expand on that.As I say I've been usin...

Re: Pull down or push up?
I'm using a spring loaded self adjusting chain guide from Armandos in Sheffield. There has been a thread on this site and on the LCGB site decrying the use of this chain guide, but I have used this for a year now without a problem. The only thing I would say is,you must use quality sprockets and most i...

Re: TS1 bore wear
a nikasil lined barrel can wear after that many miles, especially if the engine is used for short trips... the reason is that all petrol contains sulphur and if the motor is only used for short trips the fuel in the tank absorbs water over time and the inside of the barrel accumulates water through...
