Re: Splitting and reassembling the case

I would have thought that putting an assembly of any type into an oven would allow heat to soak into all of the parts, meaning you were reliant on relevant expansion rates, and probably not a great idea. however applying heat and cold to mating interference parts to allow them to be assembled is com...

Re: Removal of powder coat from inside a petrol tank

Your powder coater will probably have a product called Atlas T on hand. http://www.eurochem-northern.com/paintshop_powdercoaters.html It removes powder coat in minutes. The problem you have is that any chemical that will strip powder is going to be really aggressive. Even the fumes from it could dam...

Re: Powder as a base coat

At the end of the day, we can take anecdotal advice, or we can listen to the man who knows. If any of you are close to Hull, you can come to Kintech, and I will give you the 5 bob tour for free. You can learn about powder coating, where it's appropriate , where it isn't etc. I would even let you wat...

Re: Powder as a base coat

Or to be a little more sensible: Question , can powder coat be use as a base coat ? Yes Will it improve the corrosion resistance offered by the paint : No Will it it improve the adhesion of the paint to the substrate : No Will it bring any benefit in terms of the final finish of the parts once paint...

Re: Powder as a base coat

The question was about using powder coat as a base for paint, not an alternative. You say it will cost a fortune if you get the sprayer to prep it, well then it's not a like for like comparison. if the part is damaged, dented etc and you powder coat it, then it will still look damaged and dented, it...

Re: Powder as a base coat

I just can't see it.

That's £200 you don't need to spend if your on a tight budget.

To powder coat, the substrate has to be 100% clean, so ideally blast cleaned. At that point I would be hitting it with an acid etch primer, then a high build 2K primer.

£50 spent, instead of the £200.

Re: Powder coating over chemical metal

It won't give you a result you are happy with !

Curing is between 180 C and 210 C for between 15 and 22 minutes depending on the powder spec.

There are fillers designed specifically for use under powder coat, but none of them are great.

Re: Air brush kit

As a follow on from the last post, anyone in to airbrushing may wonder about the level of work you can out of the 0.5mm nozzle on the eclipse ( pretty big for an airbrush ). The following images were done by Simon Murray whilst teaching portraits one one of his courses, using a bog standard eclipse,...
