Re: Reconditioning a light switch
Sounds drastic, but I've used aerosol brake and clutch cleaner for jobs like this. A quick blast will remove all old muck, carbon and grease, but so well anything that can corrode will need a touch of WD40 or similar afterwards

Re: Crank check
Yes, just had my old MecEur black crank checked out at 1 1/2 thou at a local bike shop (he's done trials bike building for years, so knows his stuff). Just took it down for a check during a rebuild and was fine up until then, so back in it goes...

Re: Early Series 2 Rear Light Lamps
Looks good Bob, and must take a lot less power than the 30W of filament lamps blazing away behind me at night... Think I'll pick up some thin plastic sheet and some lampholders and have a play. Cheers

Re: Early Series 2 Rear Light Lamps
Thanks for the info OFTR. I did have a trawl through Google Images and found a old hand-drawn diagram for a 12V conversion for a TV II, and this shows what you describe: http://www.scooterbbs.net/board/DCForumID1/47423.html. This also gives all 3 lamps as being 12V/10W so I'll use this as a baseline...

Re: Flywheel refitting - help!
Good luck! I'm with Mick1 - the last thing to check is that the taper on the shaft mates with the taper in the flywheel, if it does check the woodruff key. One last thought: check the washer behind the flywheel nut hasn't gone "on the huh" (as we say hereabouts) and jammed the flywheel and...

Early Series 2 Rear Light Lamps
I'm replacing the white rubber lamp holder in my early Series 2 rear light with a Casa one (the one I have was bodged to take two festoon lamps using a different lampholder years ago). The new rubber lamp holder has three festoon lamp holders, but (i) which ones are for the rear lamp and the brake l...

Re: Flywheel refitting - help!
Does the flywheel "rock" on the taper, or is it seated properly? The flywheel definitely looks to be too far out from the mag flange, and the end of the taper not far enough through the nut. Does the flywheel turn ok after the nut is tightened a bit using just a wrench? If you've changed t...

Re: Flywheel refitting - help!
It might sound bleedin' obvious, but the flywheel magnets haven't picked up a small nut or similar have they? Had something similar happen during my refit the other week. Probably best not to turn the flywheel until you're certain to avoid damage to coils/pick-up...

Re: lifespan of powder coat?
Yes, but Lambretta frames are cussed things and it depends if your blaster is having a good day as to whether he gets into all the corners or not. And then there's the handling of bare metal with big greasy fingerprints all over it. You might think it's clean, but it can all get sealed beneath swea...

Re: lifespan of powder coat?
The powder coat is like a plastic film that coats the metal but doesn't seem to key to it in the same way as primer, and the main criticism of it is that rust can eat away at the metal underneath. I've seen it happen. Some people swear by it. But I'm not convinced. I think it's horrible stuff. My e...
