If you are using a blade about 3/4mm thick it will have side clearance already ground into it. Nice lathe by the way. Have you got a fax machine so I could send over a sketch ?

There is nothing realy wrong with HSS parting off tools. I take it you are using it on al/alloy. If you are parting off say 30mm dia bar the speed should be about 300/400 rpm with coolant. You should have a top rake angle of about 15 degees, front rake of about 5 degrees and about 0.5 deg side clear...

Thanks for the replies. I fear the crank is coming to the end of its life because I'm starting to get a slight knocking sound from it, could be the bearings but 2500 + on an indian crank could be a good time to change it. I am thinking of changing the piston/rings mainly because I don't want to touc...

piston/crank advice
Hi all,
I've got a gp200 (indian pretty well much standard). I've done 2500miles on it now and believe the crank might need replacing. At the same time I'm thinking of changing the piston. Can anyone advise what would be the best piston to use. Advice on the crank would also be apreciated.
