Re: Re-corking clutch plates
Thanks Mark. I had found a similar service from another such outfit, but as Tony says, perhaps cork is a bit 20th century. What is the rare scooter? We'll it isn't that rare, really. It is just that he was told that the clutch plates were as rare as rocking horse turds. It's a Triumph Tigress. Meanw...

Re: Loom bullet connectors
Vehicle wiring products call them "Japanese bullet connectors" I think.
Also, buy the MP71 crimping tool for the non-insulated terminals. One of the best £10 you'll spend this year.

Yes, you will need a 12V DC supply, although the battery in the Tom Tom should give several hours of use.
Have you a spare wheel at the front? You could build a simple bracket off either the spare wheel holder, or one of the holes in the spare wheel itself.

Re: Re-corking clutch plates
Well I thought Tony had his tongue in his cheek, which must make drinking wine rather messy, but when I googled "clutch plate re-corking", I found this: http://www.vintagecarparts.co.uk/images/products/clutchcork.jpg It is a photo of a clutch plate restored by a company called "Vintag...

LG,
I just don't think that it is getting that hot during the brazing process. There is no lateral force on the links during the welding, so it won't bend.

Re: Re-corking clutch plates
I hope its not some sort of lambretta 6 plate jobby  You could end up with a trend braking 2 plate conversion  LOL Coaster. I know you can buy cork in flat sheets, because it is supplied in this form for uses as gaskets. However, I think that this is a bit beyond the DIY environment of...

Re: Qustom Daytone front damper
Surely even the Ohlins steering damper will work in both directions (compression and rebound). Why would you want it to damp on the compression? You will only strain the mountings or break the whole damper in half. Isn't that what happend to the Qustom item? The OE dampers compress without any resis...

Studs
I need some studs for a new front hub. I'd like some push-in studs, rather than lefthand threaded items (cos I can't find a tap that I can afford). I've found some that came from some Indian hubs, but they have such poor splines I don't trust them. I've got some lovely studs from my scooter trailer ...

Re-corking clutch plates
OK, it might sound a bit mad, but someone asked me this question today and I could only assume that it must be possible. He has a rare scooter, but can't find any clutch plates for it.
Any takers?
