Re: Supertourer port timings
You've got a nice torquey set of timings there. You could get a little more without entirely spoiling the bottom end by going to EX 170 TRF124 INLET 150 but it wouldn't be a huge boost, and it will ride like a dream as it is on that pipe.

Re: Piston Travel???
Have you got a HPC crank? these regularly twist and also at the same time sling the weighted plugs into the path of the con rod. A twisted crank will definitely cause an air leak by distorting the timing side seal as it rotates. I've had 3 £300 HPC cranks twist on me so I won't ever use another.

Re: Taking a while for revs to drop down to idle...
Assuming no airleak could just be idle mixture adjustment. Try turning the airscrew out a turn or so, if this doesn't help try going one size larger on the idle jet and adjusting until the engine returns to idle fairly quickly when throttle is blipped. Hope its that simple.

Re: Pinking
I've never been able to use an X7 needle without pinking, even with a grossly overlarge atomiser and main such as you're using. try going to AV266/X13 2nd or end clip. Also reducing that Mahoosive main jet to at least 128 (may find you need to go down to 125) will help the WOT response. AS ALWAYS CH...

Re: Clutch springs
The heavy duty springs sold by Chiselspeed (same as the old Taffspeed heavy duty springs) are excellent.

Re: Seizure on a cast barrel
My preference would be 3.5 thou for a 150/175, and 4 thou on a 200/225. Can't see how 4 thou would harm a small block though.eden wrote:if you wana nip up the first time you give it some throttle for a while go for 3.5 if you don't go for 4

Take it to a garage and jet wash it after using the petrol/paraffin method.

Re: how to choose a phbh atomiser
AVs are great for racing as they run very rich at lower throttle openings. This is safe if you have to shut the throttle at high revs/throttle, and racers aren't bothered about being rich at lower throttle as they mostly run about flat out. The AS atomiser is more suited to road use start with an X1...

Re: Needle or Atomiser ?
X13 & X7 needles are better suited to AS rather than AV atomisers, they will usually be extremely rich at the bottpm 1/3 on an AV. Try using an X2 needle. Or you could use an AS 266 with the X13.
