I don't think you can bet on no clearance issues even with the original Ducati AF. On my motor I previously had an original AF Ducati and stator the mag was not machined and I had no clearance problems with it. On reassembly with a different crank it was fine till torque on the nut rached 50 lbft wh...

Can't you use a fly wheel holding tool to lock the crank while you undo it rather than strip the top end?

Your bgm stator should work with the AF flywheel, subject to the usual clearance caveats. Theres nothing in the stator that can't be replaced with quality parts have you considered repairing them? I can't see that the flywheel can be to blame for the failing stators, maybe you were just unlucky. Wha...
