Re: Piston Identification

I tried various magic potions I'd read about on the internet, coke, vinager, acetone, but nothing was going to shift it even with heat applied so in the end we made a steel insert to sit on top of the piston so that pressure was applied to the sides only (that's the ring on the crown) and put it in ...

Re: Piston Identification

I reckon you're right, measured the barrel the best I could and it's certainly more than 57mm, so I'll go with 57.4 new rings and measure them up. Don't know if you're joking about running it again, but I'm going to give it a go! Both barrel and piston have cleaned up ok and I kind of feel that I ow...

Re: Piston Identification

Yes, it's had a seize at some point and hasn't moved for many years. It looked like this when we eventually got it out:

Piston Identification

What piston do I have here? It's from a '61 Li150 S2, callipers measure at 57mm around the ring area, but I wasn't sure if the '4' after the 57 means 4th oversize even though the measurement doesn't suggest it. And yes, I know it looks rather sorry for itself! Thanks, George. http://i1063.photobucke...

Re: Vespa Digital Speedo Cable

It depends on the size of your wheel/tyre combo. The instruction book says to position the front wheel valve at the bottom of the wheel and make a chalk mark on the floor, push the scoot forward so the rotates once in full and make another mark on the ground when the valve is back at the bottom, mea...

Re: Vespa Digital Speedo Cable

You also need to set the wheel diameter so the speedo knows how far the scoot is travelling per revolution.

Re: My Li150 S2

I was going to treat the rust and clear-coat it initially, but now wondering if I should get the frame dipped, as quite a lot of rust came out of the tube when I turned it upside down. At least I feel I need to pour some kind of treatment down the tube & then waxoil (or similar). Any suggestions...

Re: Vespa Digital Speedo Cable

There's a grub screw on the bracket so the sensor can slide in/out, on the photo you can just about see it on the end of the bracket arm. Your speedo should have some kind of calibration option, as you have to tell it how far the bike has travelled per wheel revolution. The magnet can go anywhere, w...

Re: Vespa Digital Speedo Cable

I was expecting to fix it to the front wheel but couldn't find a good fixing point and the exhaust bracket turned out to be just right. Essentially it does matter where you fit it, it only has to pick up the rotation of the wheel. The bracket was separate to the sensor and rather pricey, you could m...
