For anybody interested it turned out that it was the pickup or pickup height as Adam mentioned.
Both the LML stators I had gave me the problem. Tried a vespa stator, problem solved. Changed pickup on my LML stator and raised it to match the vespa stator and all is good!

Re: Ignition timing advancing with revs?
Cheers mick, cant see it. Motor has had new bearings and crank recently.
Sounds then as if this is absolutely something that shouldn’t be happening? As opposed to maybe an LML thing (might just convert to Ducati) Or maybe I’m getting a false reading somehow
Aargh

Ignition timing advancing with revs?
Hi, please help! Currently trying to get my timing sorted on my LML malossi 166, ignition system is LML (separate coil and CDI) (fixed timing) Timing is strobed at the 3000 ish rpm at 17/18 Thing is when I rev it high and the pipe kicks in the timing waaaay advances to well above 20. Is this normal?...

Longstroking Malossi 166, JL RZ port timings
Hi guys, I’m in the process of adding a long stroke bell crank to my malossi 166 LML motor. As part of the install I need to get the port timings sorted. The crank itself uses the longer 110 rod. So as I understand I need to first lift the barrel with a 5mm spacer then add an extra 1.5 for the strok...

Re: Lacking performance at top end
The scooter does seem to pull very well at the moment but i get what your saying, I will try draining the oil see how it is first of all. Part of my thinking was I had heard people talk about getting lots of over rev and that upgearing in this way could go along way to improving things in that sense...

Re: Lacking performance at top end
Guygrr that’s good to know, I will give that I try. I believe the LML has the seven spring I think it’s basically a p200 clutch. I’m thinking of upping the clutch gear from 21 to 22 tooth to try and help the top end I think whilst I do that I may aswell put some new plates/springs in. Do you know if...
