Re: Petrol resistant silicone sealer

There are very few truly fuel resistant sealants, done my time in a shop enviro, flushing blue slime out of carb jets. We use Loctite 5922 paste on fuel senders, which is rated fuel resistant & pretty much an industry standard bodge. If you'd rather do the job proper like, buy a sheet of 1.5mm n...

Re: soldering

The tip must be super clean, try filing off any nasty black deposits, then get it up to temp & wipe the tip on a wet soldering sponge or a rolled up piece of clean, damp cotton rag. Regularly wipe the tip to get the burned flux off. As mentioned already, use leaded solder only, not the lead free...

Re: Simoniz Matt Black (SIMP17C)

If you you do a final wet coat with Simoniz matt it does seem to have a sheen not dissimilar to their satin. Try following the wet coat after 5/10 mins, by pulling back a foot or so & literally dry dust the final coat. Plastikote does pretty good matt, but I have a feeling it's a polyurethane &a...

Re: Metallic paint

+1 on that, thinners will not react with/soften a fully cured 2-pack filler, certainly looks like a simple case of duff filler or badly mixed. Also, If you're not working in a heated garage/shed etc, humidity & low temp will have an adverse effect & slow the cure rate substantially. What can...

Re: Metallic paint

No disrespect, but you are worrying over nothing here, just get that paint on, no point in startin over. You apply plenty of clear on effect colours like pearls, candy's, metallics etc, so as to give you some room to flat out any defects. Wait for it to fully cure, up to a month if using 1K paint gr...

Re: none resistor plug caps

I agree it is rather confusing, what they're talking about is the ' underlying DC component of the HT voltage immediately after the spark is struck. Have to admit I don't fully understand that part myself, but what I can tell you is that all magnetos work on the same principle - either a magnet rota...

Non suppressed is defo the way to go in any flywheel mag or Lucas type etc. Brightspark have a short tech article on it with a simple data chart - http://www.brightsparkmagnetos.com/faqs/FAQs%20about%20magnetos%20generally/Are%20suppressors%20and%20resistor%20sparking%20plugs%20OK%20to%20use%20with%...

Re: 2pac clear in a can

Spraymax are 400ml, enough to do a tank & the top frame section on a Lamby (just). Check this vid on the tube from Coast Airbrush, the guy is pretty slick, but actually quite engaging & explains in detail all you need to know. Really worth watching in full, but skip to about 8.00 if you're o...
