Re: lambretta 290 rotax

At the expense of stealing Holty’s thunder, his new cylinder uses a vacuum actuated exhaust valve. The black plastic is the cover for the vacuum diaphragm. It’s a neat upgrade and should give his bike more bottom end.

Re: 177cc/si20/20

You can run it with a 20/20, no problem. The benefit of the larger carb would be to provide more air flow, and correspondingly, more fuel. This allows for higher RPMs and more speed. But with the smaller carb you would expect to see better throttle response and performance off the line. This is due ...

Re: Lacking performance at top end

As I said, the oil will smell burnt, depending on how long the plates have been slipping. But once you’ve drained the oil it would be pretty obvious and quite pungent. Also the corks may appear black or very dark brown, and sort of glazed and shiny. I consider plates and springs to be a pretty cheap...

Re: Lacking performance at top end

Fwiw, I’m also thinking slipping clutch. So, you absolutely can have this problem only at high rpm. And the increased heat you describe would make sense as all the clutch is doing at that point is making a boat load of friction. Drain the oil. Does it smell burnt? Get your self a few more clutch pla...

Maybe I missed it somewhere, but why do you have 2 fuel flaps?

Re: px longstroke 125cc

Yeah, you'll be fine. I run a long stroke Pinasco. Originally it was on a 23/65 P200 combo, but it would struggle to accelerate well in 4th even with a short 4th gear. Iirc I dropped the clutch gear to a 22 and the 4th back to a 35 tooth gear. That's enough to keep it on the power even up steep hills.

Re: px longstroke 125cc

You'll see an improvement stroking any of those cylinders. But it's not as if one is better than other as the cylinders are designed to produce power differently. I can only directly comment on the Malossi and Polini. The Malossi is a still a rev monster, if a bit less so and the Polini is quite a b...
