By the way the cylinder set up is with the squish set at 1.5mm and the piston sits at 1mm above the bottom of the exhaust port at BDC.

Mikuni TM28 jetting suggestions please
Hi all, I’ve got an Italian GP125 with GP200 gearing, a Casa 185 kit that has been bored out to 198, a BGM electronic ignition timed at 20 BTDC, a BGM big bore exhaust and a Mikuni TM28 carb. The carb is the new item. Can anyone suggest jetting, a needle and an atomiser please?

Hi all, very late update I realise, but just to let everyone know that after all the electrical work I've done the problem did indeed turn out to be a faulty fuel tap- the flow was far too little. As soon as I put the SIP fastflow one on the problem cleared. Thanks for all the advice along the way

Update time- this problem has been on the back burner for six plus months due to me playing with a Lammie engine rebuild. Anyway, I'm back on the case now, and I've changed the pickup. Made no difference, but I have now noticed that this problem seems to ocurr more often when the tank is low on fuel...

Spoke to Mark Broadhurst via email and the port timings are the same whether the kit is MB or Scooter Center sourced. For maximum torque he recommends having the piston edge in line with the bottom of the two transfer ports, which *should* then have it sitting 0.5-1mm above the bottom of the exhaust...

Ah, interesting stuff, cheers chaps. I'm still confused re whereabouts the piston should ideally be at bdc. My RT195 is a Scooter Center Koln supplied one- I'm sure I read somewhere that the port timings are different between the MB supplied kits and those from Scooter Center- any ideas anyone?

on the rt kit you want piston level with both ports witch should put it 0.5 to 1mm below ex port that's how mb explaines how to set it up Well, if the crown overheats if below the exhaust port at BDC surely MB wouldn't recommend that setting? Ok, thats what I had when first setup. Looks like i just need a 0.5mm head gasket to get a 1.3 squish. Cheers for the advice..

Still struggling with this problem albeit on a different engine with an RT195 kit. I can get the edge of the piston in line perfectly with the bottom of the exhaust port but the transfer ports are just slightly lower than the piston edge. Is this a good level for a torquey setup? I'm using a 60mm cr...

It's supposed to give a smoother running, quieter engine with less friction than a chain. Reckoned to be good for 40,000 km's too.
