Couldn't you spring mount it at the stub end, then you would have a fully floating exhaust?
You may have already tried this?
Any flexing/movement will always transfer to the bit that's fixed = cracking.....
Maybe worth a try...........

Well if its of any help, I've used JB Weld on my Sprinter Crankcase, where, trying to weld anymore in the crank area would just cause more porosity, and its been fine. Its a crankcase that's had a fair bit of welding btw.............

Scitsu - good damping, reads from HT cable, its 12v rechargeable via a pin into the body of the rev counter.
