Re: Bit of old school engine build

8-) I like; but wot carb and pipe ya fittin an wot clearence you got for ya piston I think he said something like:- " Carb is a Mikuni TMX30 and the exhaust is a (i think underestimated) JL KRP1." Ron Moss recommends 3 thou (0.075mm) clearance with the Mitaka (Avanti) 70mm piston in an ir...

Re: Extra thick chain case gasket.

I had to get a bit more clearance with mine - I carefully ground away a small amount of material from the kickstart shaft where the top clutch plate had been rubbing, and fitted an extra washer under the circlip on the ouside of the case, to pull the shaft fully into position. Only used a standard g...

Re: Lucas pathfinders

OK, Fair enough - I stand corrected! I've since discovered there were some 12Volt Indian GPs wired with 2 sets of lighting coils in parallel, but most setups these days seem to have 4 coils in series. Using the parallel setup may theoretically mean the engine speed needs to be a bit higher to reach ...

Re: Lucas pathfinders

The rewired stator had the original battery charging coils removed, and replaced by a second pair of lighting coils. All 4 lighting coils were wired in series, the earth wire from the coils to the stator was disconnected from earth, and the two ends of the lighting output were fed to a full wave re...

Re: Lucas pathfinders

I have a pathfinders fitted(as you know) but even with 12v DC conversion using a Wassel unit the lights dim after 30 minutes or so. I've had to fit LED bulbs but theses are useless in the dark. How were the original Pathfinders powered? I'm not sure if I need a new battery? I'm fairly sure that the...

Re: SIL stage 4 barrel

Don't know about a SIL barrel, but I've got an Indian 200 barrel for a three wheeler, where the barrel is cast completely around the stud holes (just like the SR185 barrels.) I reckon you could bore that to well over 80mm before you got a pile of cast iron rings on the floor under the boring machine...

Yeah, it was a 125 ........with a supercharger, which isn't always mentioned!

Re: Help with LD "floppy" gear selection

The 'Lambretta Serviceman's Book' is about the best manual I've found, but I don't know of any online downloads. It's pretty unlikely that the split pin has come off the pivot pin for the arm which carries the roller, it's more likely that the coil spring which pushes the arm & roller against th...

Re: Mugello Spigot Buggered! Suggestions?

I have seen exactly this sort of damage before (not on a Mugello, fortunately) - and it was all my fault  I was persuading a heavily seized piston to leave a barrel, after soaking it in WD40 for about a week - the piston eventually came out, but the spigot had cracked in exactly the same way a...
