What gauge steel for lambretta bodywork

Got a mig welder coming and intend to do my own welding on my latest resto, question is what thickness steel plate should i use? Gonna start on the rear runners first, any other welding advice mucn appreciated !

1.0mm steel for tin work,

Bin the cheap mask that comes with it and get a auto off mig helmet,£20 ebay, and make sure you have the right size tip for the wire used.

That should be auto darkening not auto off.
